Chapter 6 – Chi-Chi’s Unknown Brag

  “Brrrring!  Brrrring!”

“Hello?  No, I don’t want to invest in any aluminum siding…what?...I don’t care!...Now, you listen here buddy!  I’m doing the laundry and will NOT be bothered by telemarketers!  Good Day!”

Chi-Chi, hangs up the phone.  She is a rather tall, thin, attractive, brunette, who is currently enjoying some quality time with her laundry.

 “Brrrring!  Brrrring!”

 “Click!”

Chi-Chi picks up the phone, “Now you listen here!  I thought I told you…”

“Arghhh!”  The person on the other phone interrupts. “Geez, Chi- Chi, Don’t you know who this IS?”

 “Oh, I’m sorry Bulma.”

“You darn well should be,” Bulma begins to cry on the other side of the line. “I’m your best friend, and I’m just calling for a little support…and this is how you treat me?  I’m an emotional wreck…and you yell at me first thing on the phone…”

 “Bulma…”

“I mean (sniff), come on.  Whatever happened to ‘How ya doing?, Bluma?’”

 “Bulma…”

 “Or, ‘How’s the weather by…’”

 “BULMA!”

 “What?!”

“I said I was sorry, really. I didn’t mean it.”

“Sorry Chi-Chi.  Like I said, I’m so sad.”

“Well, why don’t you tell me about it?”

“Okay.  I guess I’ll just get to the point; I broke up with Yamcha.”

 “Really? Again?  Why?”

“Because…he’s a nobody, who’s going nowhere.  He has no ambition.”  Bluma stops crying, “he won’t even go to college or technical school.  He’s a bum…and we’re through…but he’s so handsome!”  Once again, Bulma cries.

Chi-Chi has to think about what Bulma has just said.  She decides that it may be a wise idea to change the subject, but she’ll have to do it in the most thoughtful way possible.

“Well, listen, Bulma.  I’m glad you came to me with this problem.  You’re my best friend, and you can always talk to me about anything.”

 “Thanks Chi-Chi”

“Don’t mention it.  Hey, since we’re on the phone, I’ve got some good news.”  Chi-Chi smiles to herself as she tries the subject change.

“What is it (sniff, sniff)?  Bulma fights back the tears.

“You’d never guess…but remember 18?  The girl that went to elementary and middle school with us?  She’s back and she going to be living in the dorm room right next to us.”

Bulma now has completely stopped crying.  “Really?!”  She exclaims.

 “Yep.”

“Wow!  How’d you find out about that?”

“My dad found out, she was on the football team – from Chancellor Roshi.  They go way back, you know.”

“Your dad, the Ox King, is the coolest Chi-Chi.”

Chi-Chi smiles to herself. “I know, say, when are you going to come and pick me up so we can go shopping for stuff for our dorm room?”

Bulma gets excited about the idea of shopping.  “Hwo about Thursday?”

“Sounds good.  I’ll make sure it’s okay with Goku.”

“Chi-Chi, why do you want Goku to come?”

“Well somebody strong has to carry our stuff.  I’m sure he’ll be okay, to do it, he’s so reliable…”  Chi-Chi begins to daydream.  “Unless of course he has football practice by then…he’s so dedicated.”

Bulma upon hearing this, gets angry.  She attempts to hold it back.

“And Goku is so loving, I’m so glad he’s my boyfriend.”

Bulma can’t take it anymore.  “Wait a MINUTE MISSY!”

 Chi-Chi stops talking.

“I call here for a little friendship and support and you start bragging about YOUR boyfriend?”

 “But Bulma…I…I…”

“And you have the gall to call yourself my best friend!”

 “I…didn’t…”

“I don’t care what you meant!  I can’t believe you would do that to me. You can call me back when you’ve thought about what it means to be a good friend and roommate.  Until than I don’t want to hear it from you AGAIN!”

Bulma slams down her father’s cell phone, breaking it and severing the connection.  Meanwhile, Chi-Chi still has the phone propped against her shoulder.  She pulls her head up, and the phone falls down.  She stands and blinks, “I don’t get it.”

She then proceeds to go back to her laundry.  “Ah!  I’ll call Bulma next week.  She’ll get over it.”
