The Chronicles of Faust Primer

The Chronicles of Faust (henceforth known as “The Chronicles”) are a chronicle of my (group’s adventures in the Dragonball Z (DBZ) universe with our own homegrown DBZ Roleplaying system.  The game is still undergoing development; so don’t bother asking for a copy of it.  When we’re satisfied with it we’ll probably post it on the page. 

 The Chronicles themselves, take place in the DBZ universe, generally at the same time as the anime, only in different parts of the universe.  To begin playing in the universe itself, we had to define its limits and to a modest extent, its inhabitants.  Since DBZ is an anime that focuses primarily on combat, that was the first issue to tackle.  I won’t bore you with the details but suffice it to say we managed to dream up a system that sort of works…sometimes (like I said, we’re still working on that). 

As a group we decided that it was quite unlikely that Freeza had managed to exterminate all of the Saiyans when he destroyed the Planet Vegeta for three reasons.  First, the Saiyans were a space faring race capable of planet jumping on their own and thus probably had outposts on other planets. Secondly, new Saiyans pop up several times in the DBZ series itself, for example, Brolly and his father.  Lastly and most solidly, Akira Toriyama said so himself in an interview with the magazine Shonen Jump. 

Following that we designed several other races to populate the universe by pulling them mostly out of our posteriors but basing some on races seen in the anime itself, for example in “the next dimension.”  Once this was accomplished, we had something that the group could work with and adventure in. 

Since it is considered bad form in roleplaying to make a character that actually exists elsewhere in literature or in some otherwise documented form, we also considered it bad form to mess with the events that actually happened in the DBZ universe as recorded in the anime.  The final general assumption is that Dragon Ball GT didn’t occur.   We consider it an alternate timeline for the purposes of our game. 

Considering these generally understood rules of roleplaying, our Game Master (GM) started our characters off in a distant part of the universe where we probably would have never even heard of Earth.  Eventually our characters do manage to make our way to earth but the GM had that happen after the DBZ timeline had run its course and was then open for tampering. 

This is about the point where the Chronicles start.  I came into the campaign after it had been going for several sessions so they’re not complete with regard to the group’s perspective but they’re complete enough from my character’s perspective, which happens to be the perspective that matters. 

As a warning, I happen to be a Geology major at my university, so my writing will be rather bland in the beginning, though will get better as I go on and “get my groove on.”  At points the subject matter is probably PG-13 to R rated so if you’re easily disgusted then you’ll probably want to skip those parts.  If you have any questions, comments or suggestions or whatever, you can email me at nicholaeus@hotmail.com .  If you have any problems or complaints, go talk to your mother, I have enough problems of my own.
