The Chronicles of Faust
By: Nez

Part 1

(Click here to skip to the chapter beginning)

Author’s note:  This first part is just the background information the Game Master had me write up for the character to begin with so we didn’t end up actually “role playing” these parts out.  In case you can’t tell, I like using big words, so a dictionary might be helpful to keep on hand.  I generally divide up the events.  Occasionally I’ll make comments, informative or sarcastic in nature, within the story itself.  These will be aside with an asterisk (*) and italicized.

Lexicon:

In this section, I’ll give a brief rundown on unfamiliar terms, including technologies, races/species, new characters, etc…

Faust: The character that the author has/had the pleasure of playing and from whose perspective this story is written.  Was born into “Saiyan first class” status, which amounts to minor aristocracy.  In real time is about ten years older than Vegeta.  Physically, he’s 6’1”, is lanky in his teens (though he bulks up as he gets older), has brown eyes and black hair (in DBZ tradition is spiked upwards and looks similar to Gohan’s during the Post-World Tournament part of the series)

The Academy of War:  The Saiyan equivalent of OCS (Officer Candidate School).  This is something the author pulled out of his arse because it would make sense that the Saiyans, being a warlike society, would have a formal institution for training.  Probably uses corporal punishment to “correct” mistakes.

Carolyn:  Faust’s sweetheart and eventually wife.  Falls into the category of a headstrong, practical (usually), intelligent, hot blonde.  Can be quite vain at times.  Probably model material, general measurements for those interested would be in the neighborhood of 34C-23-34, so plenty of curves to go around…Haw, Haw!  Get it?   Curves, go around…never mind.

Tsufarajins: Pronounced Su-fa-ra-gins, the more enlightened people that the Saiyans conquered to dominate their home planet.  Physically weak, but their technology is reasonably advanced (Star Trek: The Next Generation levels)

Jurakukym:  The name of a feline species and the name of the planet where they reside.  The Jurakukym have two subspecies:  The Tekarukym and the Milarukym.  They’re further defined in the roleplaying material we have written up, but for now the differences aren’t important.  As a species they are quite capable in combat and their technology is probably at a similar level to our own.

Freeza:  Seriously, you should know who he/she (?) is, if not, quit reading and go watch some friggin’ DBZ.  The general consensus is that this being homosexual.

Cryo-Stasis:  A form of suspended animation where the body is frozen and bodily functions are slowed, including ageing.  Usually used when traveling over long distances/long periods of time.

Planet Vegeta:  Formerly known as the planet Plant, home of the Saiyans and the Tsufarajins.

Prologue
Faust was born the eldest child, of three, in his family.  His father was a high level general and his mother was a member of the Saiyan upper class.  The elder Faust was respected for his temperance and known for ignoring "unsoldierly" orders while assaulting a planet.  Both of his parents subscribed to the old beliefs of a hard upbringing so, in the end, he bore them more respect than love.  Faust's family was reasonably well off and maintained their residence in the Capitol city on Planet Vegeta.

While growing up, the younger Faust also displayed qualities of leadership:  intelligence, charisma and perseverance.  Faust was always well liked among his peers, however he never got close to more than a few people in particular, he didn't tend to have best friends as he just had a lot of friends.

After completing his basic education, Faust then followed in his father's footsteps and attended the Academy of War.  While he was there, his superior strategic mind went into full gear catapulting him to the foremost of his class.  Previously he had shown potential while playing the usual "rough and tumble" childhood games, but now that potential blossomed.  In matters of strategy and organization he quickly left his peers in the dust.

In his second year at the Academy Faust met, and fell in love with, a female Saiyan by the name of Carolyn.  Faust met her by accident/incident while running to class and knocking her into a stand of mushy fruit while charging around a blind corner.  Off the cuff tactical observation was that she had darker blonde hair, stood about five and a half feet tall, had hazel eyes and C-cup size superstructure.  Her style of dress suggested that she was upper class.  He hoped to god that she wasn't the daughter of anyone important…

* (I thought the whole thing with the mushy fruit was classic anime style, though kinda corny…)

While she was sputtering and cursing at him, she struck a note within Faust and he interrupted her rant to comment that she was unearthly gorgeous when she was angry and covered in smashed fruit.  Taken completely by surprise by his unorthodox response, she fell into silence and looked incredulously at him for a moment.

Using his temporary advantage, Faust pressed the “attack” and offered to pay for the dry-cleaning of her clothes IF she would let him take her to dinner that night.  After calming down, taking a few deep breaths and giving Faust an appraising look, she accepted.  After all, it was the least he could do after ruining her outfit.

Needless to say, Faust was late to classes and he didn't even feel the punishment as it was inflicted since his head was so far in the clouds.  That night during dinner Carolyn, in spite of herself, started to find herself attracted to Faust.  She liked his confident nature when he was dealing with other people.  As it turned up, Faust's family was slightly higher than hers in the social hierarchy though she never would have been able to tell since he rarely lapsed into arrogance around her.

More practically, he was politically connected, on the up-and-up and he was handsome in a military way.  She was amused when Faust would stumble over his attempts to make conversation with her and inadvertently shoot himself in the foot.  She judged him worthy of her attention and many more pleasant dates followed.  Eventually Faust managed to ditch the nervousness when he got to know her.  Looking back at the first date years later, he realized that he had been more nervous in front of her than in front of his drill instructors at the Academy.  He'd been on dates before, but after Carolyn, the other dates were only a dim comparison.

* (damn straight the rest of his dates were dim, stay tuned to find out why :c)

Before completing his schooling entirely in his fourth (and final) year, Faust was given the chance to earn an early commission.  The deal was that if he could lead a detachment on a special assault to reclaim an orbital station that had been taken over by a group of rebelling workers while leaving the station in working order he would be graduated immediately and granted a commission upon his return.  Not wanting to let this chance pass him by, he accepted without any hesitation, completely confident in his strength and abilities.

* (These rebelling workers were probably Tsufarajins)

Faust completed the mission perfectly, sustaining no casualties and inflicting only minimal amounts of damage to the station.  Following this outstanding success, Faust was immediately graduated and promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant on the spot.  He was given his marching orders and was then given a weeks worth of leave, after which he was to report to the General Staff Headquarters for his assignment.

After his resounding success, Faust proposed to his now long-time sweetheart Carolyn.  She accepted and immediately began putting preparations into action (she's a smart girl, she had been expecting something like this to happen).  They wed just before sunset, a few days later, on the seashore with their families and a few close friends present.  Since Faust didn't have much time, they spent the first day of their "honeymoon" moving boxes into their new living quarters and the first night (and the rest of his week, for that matter)…moving something else around.  By the end of the week, the bed was the only item really unpacked.

* (In general submission to good taste, I cut off the “love scenes” James Bond-style.  Once in awhile I take it a bit further, but keep in mind, this was written as a record, not a porno)

Faust was assigned to a desk-job, upon his return to duty, due to his patience, uncommon for a Saiyan, in dealing with logistics.  Faust had no problems with this since he would be staying close to home (and Carolyn) and he enjoyed that type of work (though not as much as combat, of which he made sure to get plenty in the training simulators).

The following three and a half years were blissful, happy ones for the Faust couple.  For the time being they decided against having children (Carolyn not thinking the unpredictable, mobile military life to be the most conducive environment to raise children) and delighted in their own company.  If Faust got a permanent posting, then they (she) agreed to reconsider the possibility.  It seemed to Faust that Carolyn had her own ideas about raising children.  At that point he didn't really know if he wanted kids or not so he was perfectly content with her decision, as if he really had a choice in the matter.

* (Here I made a bunch of giant assumptions about Saiyan culture (i.e. Name traced through the male).  Generally male dominated though the females aren’t really pushed down and are plenty welcome to go where their ability takes them)

Interim
As expected, Faust was eventually called upon to lead a combat mission.  By this time he had been promoted to Colonel due to his competent, efficient staff work.  The mission was to coordinate and lead an assault on the planet of Jurakukym for Freeza, the Saiyan's "trading partner." After the necessary preparation and organization, Faust and his team boarded their space pods and began the month long journey to Jurakukym.  The journey was made in cryo-stasis to reduce travel stress and to cut down on the effects of aging.

Upon planet-fall the force found itself immediately surrounded and outnumbered.  The Jurakukym were strong warriors of their own right and they had the advantage of technology to boot.  Their sensor warning net had revealed the approaching Saiyans long before they reached the planet.  When the Saiyans were detected, the two chronically warring factions on the planet called a temporary truce to defeat these invaders and steal their space travel technology, which was more advanced than their own.

The Saiyan force gave a good accounting of itself, but was eventually overrun.  Faust was injured and rendered unconscious during the combat.  The enemy left him for dead and went about retrieving all the pods and other technology they could find.  Faust, the only survivor, came to consciousness several hours after the Jurakukym had left the battlefield and managed to limp to a nearby foxhole so he could set about healing himself.

Over the next seven years, Faust used his skills to hunt and acquire supplies to survive.  Since Faust was extremely outnumbered (billions to one) he struck with precision instead of brute force and overwhelming power to avoid attracting attention.  During this time, he began to work on a technique that would allow him to focus energy along small areas or planes to simulate the effects of a knife and increase the effectiveness of his attacks.

* (Visually, these “blades” Faust developed would look like the Protoss “Psi Blades” from the computer game “Starcraft.”)

After getting in his groove, Faust began to consider his ambushes and strikes as more of a game in order to maintain some sanity in his situation.  Besides his energy manipulation concepts, he also became very good at hiding and camouflage.  Using these skills to his advantage, Faust ambushed hundreds of hunting parties by leading them into canyons or other restrictive areas and slaughtering them piece-meal.

Knowing that if he stayed in one place for too long, the Jurakukym would be able to figure out what was happening to their people and begin to counter his moves.  Overcoming this, Faust stayed relatively mobile, and moved between several boltholes and hidden supply dumps.  To keep up the deception, Faust made sure to include items distinctive of one warring faction or another in case his havens were found.

Disposing of the bodies was another interesting task.  Faust had no wish to eat the bodies so he ended up either pitching them into bogs or using them as bait for larger woodland predators that he could eat.  Faust couldn't energy blast the bodies to ash on account of the power spike that would show on scouters (which both sides were beginning to deploy with their troops following their successful reverse-engineering from the captured Saiyan specimens).

Eventually Faust was able to make his way into a city and steal into a spaceport.  He repossessed one of the "borrowed" space-pods (his old one coincidentally enough) and though it was heavily modified for a different race and language, was able to take off and leave the planet behind.  Due to alterations in the navigation and guidance systems it took him three more years of trial and error to finally make it back to planet Vegeta.

About a year after the departure of the assault force (when people were starting to wonder as to the status of the mission) is when Freeza struck the Saiyans a devastating blow.  He slaughtered all of the planetary inhabitants and blasted the planet to debris in a single holocaust of fiery destruction.  A few people survived because they were quickly stuffed into space pods and shot into space (Jerani, another character in the story, was one of these few.  She was eventually rescued and took up residence on the Protogean home world).

Faust will return…

This is the end of section one, the next section will be actual material that we role-played, so it will start to have a different tone.  Much of the material in this previous section could really be expanded upon, for instance Faust’s other experiences on Jurakukym, and I may chose to do so at some later date.
